Research In Motion (RIM) finally announced the official debut of its first hybrid BlackBerry, BlackBerry 9800, which was given the nickname "Torch". Called hybrid because it provides navigation smartphone with touch screen and a QWERTY smartphone keyboard as well.
For another smartphone manufacturer, type of this product may have been used before. However, this is the first for a BlackBerry. Torch may be the RIM answer for consumers who still have not completely comfortable using the touch screen. During this BlackBerry products are popular because of its convenience is identical with the QWERTY keyboard.
"BlackBerry 9800 Torch is a product of our company is very special," RIM Co-CEO Mike Lazaridis said in a statement on Tuesday (03/08/2010). Apart from being the first hybrid Blackberry smartphone product, Torch is also one of the first smartphone using BlackBerry OS 6 application.
BlackBerry 9800 Torch has specifications 3.2-inch HVGA touch screen, using BlackBerry OS 6, there is a GPS application, it supports HSDPA with download speeds up to 3.6 Mbps. In addition, the BlackBerry 9800 Torch comes with a resolution of 5 MP camera with flash have facial recognition capabilities. Camera can also be used for the video recorder with VGA resolution.
BlackBerry 9800 Torch work using 624 MHz processor and 512 MB of internal memory can be upgraded with up to 4 GB of flash storage. Other features wi-fi connection with the latest 802.11n standard.
This hybrid BlackBerry smartphone will be first available in the U.S. starting on August 12, 2010 and with prices starting at $200 with a 2-year subscription contract.
